Wedding Wish Wednesday: Exclusive Q+A with Monique Lhuillier

Having a bit of a Monique Lhuillier love affair {wouldn't you be too?} and what better way to celebrate than an exclusive Q+A with the expert team at Monique Lhuillier!

Q: What are some general tips and advice you have for brides when they first try on wedding dresses?

A: The most important thing to remember is not to get overwhelmed! Try on 6-8 gowns to get an overall feel for the fit and design.

Also, Be true to yourself. If you have never been comfortable in a strapless dress your wedding day isn’t the day to wear one! If you know you have to wear a bra- don’t fall in love with a backless dress!

Don't forget to have an open mind. You may not be able to visualize how a 2 piece wedding gown fits on the body by looking at it on the hanger or just because you envisioned yourself in satin doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pick a lace gown that you love!

And trust the experts! Consultants are experts on their product! They have seen brides of all shapes and sizes! Listen to their advice and know that they want you to look the best you possibly can on your wedding day.

Q: What do you see todays' bride trending towards?

A: The reception short cocktail dress has made a major comeback! Stars such as Carrie Underwood have set the tone by changing into a sexy short cocktail dress to dance the night away! At Monique Lhuillier you will see embellished corset bodices with textured short skirts!

Q: You've probably seen this before: a bride loves one gown, but her friends/family think she should wear something else. As the expert, what would you advise on this dilemma.

A: This happens all the time! As the bride is shopping for her wedding gown she is bogged down with opinions from all of her family and friends. What our bride needs to remember that only she will be wearing the dress she selects!! If you feel confident and beautiful in your dress that is the only thing that matters. Listen to yourself and you can’t go wrong!

I think to avoid any negative energy it is best to bring your friends or family after you have already found the dress of your dreams and purchased it! This way you can announce confidently here is my dress- not giving room for any opinions to sway your decision or make you second guess!

Q: Any bride would love to be surrounded by all the beautiful gowns at the salon on Melrose Place. How do you help her narrow down her choices of finding the dream dress?

A: The thought of choosing just ONE dress out of the sea of beautiful gowns we have at the salon is no easy task! It is so important to try on several different styles and shapes to narrow in on the silhouette that you want to wear. After the silhouette is selected then you can easily navigate through the details to decide what it is that you like best- embroideries, beading, lace or textured layering!

The Big Picture

Is the stress of wedding planning driving you mad?

A dear friend of mine recently got engaged and asked for some advice on wedding planning. Working in the wedding industry, there was plenty of advice I thought to give her - invitations, locations, wedding gowns, cakes, decor, reception, shoes, hair, beauty - you get the idea.

I thought about it for a minute and in the sea of knowledge I had about all things wedding, the best advice I could think of was "You only get married once. Enjoy it. Have fun. And don't stress about the little things."

I know many brides want their significant other to be a part of the wedding. But if he doesn't have an input on what grosgrain ribbon you use to tie your favors, in no way does his indifference to said ribbon suggest any indifference towards you. Yes the devil's in the details, but don't lose sight of the big picture.

Given his way, he would take you down to City Hall and tie the knot right then and there. No, it wouldn't be the romantic ideal you had in mind, but happily married you two would be.

So brides, you only get married once. Enjoy it. Have fun. And don't stress about the little things.

Some advice for life & love.

Flowers Need Love Too

There is something so romantic about receiving a fresh arrangements of flowers from your loved one - especially on Valentine's Day! As Vera Wang notes "Flowers represent our inner emotions and transform the everyday into a special occasion. When receiving fresh flowers, it is important to know about basic maintenance and care in order to enjoy your gift to its fullest potential."

Indeed! Myself? I like an arrangement of roses much like the ones in the above image. To keep your flowers as long lasting as your love, keep these helpful tips in mind:
  1. Remove the outside guard petals. These petals were left on to protect the bloom during shipment.
  2. Cut 1 inch off the bottom of each stem with a sharp knife or floral scissors and remove any leaves that will come in contact with the water in the vase.
  3. Fill the vase with tepid water and add 1 packet of flower food.
  4. Be sure to keep your bouquet away from direct sunlight, drafty areas or high heat to insure a long life.
  5. To keep your bouquet fresh, re-cut the stems every few days and replace the water with fresh water.
After all flowers like any relationship take a bit of love and nurturing to last. To read more on how to take care of your best buds, click here.

Beauty Sleep

Reader, it's been a few days since the whirl of the holidays and if you are still feeling a little weary from all the excitement, you are not alone.

For those of you that are recently engaged, I have one piece of advice for you: during this time, simply enjoy being engaged. You and your fiance have taken a big step forward, symbolically committing yourselves to a life together.

As you start planning your wedding, remember to take care of one another. The process of planning a wedding should be a joyous one and not cause undue stress in your relationship.

So take a few moments to relax, because with a sound mind, there's nothing you can't do!

Everything Old is New Again

Congratulations to all you beautiful brides to be who are starting the New Year with the most wonderful present of all! As you embark on this stage in your life, it may seem the same things you experienced just a few months ago suddenly seem new again. The sky looks a little bluer, the flowers smell a little sweeter, I become a little cheesier.

As such, vintage inspired weddings continues to be a trend in 2010. But don't worry - these re-imagined touches hit all the right style notes.

From Style Unveiled, romantic lace gives new meaning to something old.
