Fab Frocks Friday: Performing Art

If only we could all strike a pose like Olympic gold medalist Nastia Liukin does for BCBG. This fluid white dress is the perfect 10, whether its that romantic walk on the beach or for some high fashion engagement pictures. An edgy black heel juxtaposed with the soft white layers is so fierce!

Petal Pushers

Inspired minds find a delectable way to have your favorite flowers come out in full force.

Top Row: Exotic Elegance
Bottom Row: A Wild Party

The tip? Less is more with these cakes that are effortlessly chic with a modern, organic touch. And to make the flowers as edible as they are exquisite ask your vendor to use sugar flowers instead of the usual fondant. The delicateness of the sugar flowers will make your cake a confection of de-light!

Save the First Dance for Me

Oh, the first dance! I'm sure you've seen the video of the new President and First Lady and I couldn't help but think how perfect it was not only for the occasion but also so wedding-ish. I mean, white dress? one of the most popular love and wedding songs? I told you I look at the world through wedding colored glasses!

And President Obama's one-two step? I knew he was a smooth talker, but I had no idea he was smooth on his feet as well. Gents take note!

If you didn't get a chance to see it, check it out below:

First Lady in White

From The Australian:

"If Cinderella thought she had issues going to the ball, they were nothing compared with the quandaries Michelle Obama faced . . .
Suffice to say, there was no room for an ill-fitting slipper, let alone a fashion disaster of pumpkin-size proportions . . . She wore a white, one shouldered Grecian-inspired ballgown with a ruched bodice by 26-year-old New York designer Jason Wu, in a brave and inspired statement of her allegiances."

Love it!

. . . and Lady in Red

Dr. Jill Biden looked perfectly patriotic in Reem Acra. I love what our new Vice-President says about having to dance and his wife: "I may not be able to dance, but I sure like holding her."

Aww!! I can't decide which couple is cuter!

State of the Union

It's Inauguration Day, a time to reflect on the state of our union and what we can do to make our nation better.

As we celebrate a new page in history, I started thinking about another celebrated union. With all the fuss, the nerves, the pomp and circumstance just to reach that one special day, it's easy to get caught up in the excitement of a wedding, but remember: a wedding is one day, but a marriage is forever.

Which is why I love what President Obama has to say about his ever so stylish and amazing wife, Michelle:

Describing Michelle as "alluring" and with "a strong personality," the future President says, "if you look deep into her eyes, there’s a certain vulnerability. In any case, I see it even if most don’t realize it: she goes through life tall, beautiful, confident, very able…There’s a part of her that is fragile, young, sometimes scared, and I think these are contradictions that attracted me to her. And she makes me very happy. She is very familiar to me and so I can be myself around her, she knows me well, I completely trust her, but at the same time in certain respects she remains a mystery to me."

How romantic! You're one lucky lady Mrs. O!

Musical Chairs

I'm calling a moratorium on all overdone, over-bowed chair covers. What would possess someone to cover 300 chairs in such a drab, 1980s manner?

We in the business love the Chiavari. Not only are they a timeless classic, but they are a compliment, not a distraction, to any ceremony or reception. Take a look at any wedding magazine, editorial or real wedding, and you'll see what I mean.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Dreem Girls

Designer Reem Acra has been busy at work showing not one, not two, but three evening gowns on the red carpet at Sunday's Golden Globes. Many congratulations!

With so much focus on her ready to wear, what has she been up to in her bridal collection?

Just what I always wanted - princess ball gowns and short flirty hems, which goes to show that dreams really do come true. Only one thing - I know it's a buyer's market out there, but please lose the numbers for your next show.
